House Hunting Chronicles: Gratitude

We have many reasons to feel gratitude in general, but this week I am feeling thankful for an abundance of love and friendship. My aching back and I sit at my desk as I type this; there is a very affectionate cat licking my nose, face, shoulders and arms. She also attempts to cuddle on my lap and occasionally roles on my keyboard. Gratitude for the unconditional love of our fur babies is a great place to start.

Our best friends Ann and Jim came up from Petaluma last week, and they will be back the day before we have to be out of the house to help with the last odds and ends. My dear friend Lisa packed the last pieces of my very large kitchen. Jason volunteered for two kitchen shifts. Did I mention it is a large kitchen? Rebecca spent a few hours boxing up anything I put in front of her. Lisa and Lory will be here the day before the movers arrive to help with the final tidbits, and they have their own tape gun!

We also feel privileged to have been able to enjoy this home for more than eight years. The house and yard were the perfect backdrop for one daughter’s wedding. It is large enough that when our other daughter and granddaughter needed a place to live, we had the space. We have hosted innumerable holiday and birthday celebrations. Many colleagues have hung out after graduation. I’ve been able to host work related parties and workshops. It kept us safe and comfortable during a pandemic.

We are also grateful that we could buy a brand new house in a central location close to family and not too far from work.

I am bursting with gratitude at the love we are surrounded by.
